    Results: 

    Symbiont provided design-build services to support the installation of a new aseptic filler line in an existing production facility. Building modification design included equipment supports, conveyor supports, and hose stations to accommodate a new packaging area. Demolition drawings for modifications to the existing walls, doors, and concrete slab were produced. New design elements included slab design and incorporating conveyor, new drains, a sump pit, walls and openings, and code review for egress requirements. Utility systems modification design included electrical power distribution, low voltage power distribution, hot water, compressed air, steam, condensate, chilled water, nitrogen, softened water, and plant water.

    Results: 

    Symbiont provided process, electrical, and instrumentation design modifications to increase the brand flexibility of an existing Milwaukee brewery. Design modifications to process and utility piping included: beer transfer, steam and condensate, compressed air, instrument air, ambient process water, hot process water, CIP supply and return, fermented beer, CO2 vent, tank counter-pressure, and carbon dioxide gas.

    This condiments manufacturing facility had an existing wastewater pretreatment system that had surpassed its useful life span.  Symbiont utilized 3-D modeling to execute the replacement of the pretreatment system while maintaining pretreatment with rental equipment and temporary utilities.

    Results: 

    Centrifuges are used in the brewing process to increase throughput and decrease production time. The capacity of a centrifuge varies depending on the yeast load of the fermenter. When fermented beer with high yeast loads ran through the existing system, the throughput was reduced as the actual capacity of the centrifuges was reduced.

    Results: 

    Symbiont used 3D modeling to design a two phase anaerobic digester to biologically treat waste streams such as yeast without screening. This process will reduce the volume of solids disposed offsite and will increase the volume of biogas produced. The biogas is then used in microturbines to generate electricity, while excess is used in a boiler to heat the digester and also to generate steam for the brewery.

    Results: 

    Symbiont designed and constructed a two phase anaerobic digester at the existing wastewater treatment facility. The process maximizes loading rates and protects the bacteria by isolating the acetogens from the methanogens. The anaerobic effluent is discharged  to the existing aerobic treatment process. Biogas is dried and compressed for use in electrical generation with mircoturbines.

    Results: 

    Symbiont used D/B to upgrade the mixing capacity in the equalization tanks to reduce the impact of chemicals on the downstream-activated sludge process. Online sensors were added for real time data, and existing activated sludge process was reconfigured. An aerobic digester was modified, the aeration diffusers were replaced, and blower plug in and controls rebuilt to minimize energy use. Continuously backwashing sand filters were added to reduce total phosphorus in effluent.

    Results: 

    Pepsi Beverages was in need of new wastewater pH treatment systems to ensure compliance with local sewer permits at several facilities. Each system includes self-contained wastewater pH neutralization skid, equalization tank, lift station, and effluent monitoring. The enclosure on the tank allows for a weather tight space to house the features.

    Symbiont designed and constructed the expansion of an existing wastewater treatment plan in order to treat flows from the world's largest cheese production facilities. To maintain production capabilities, the upgrade was completed during routine operations of the existing plant. Symbiont developed a unique high rate activated sludge process for this application. This included tie-ins to existing facilities, power connections, and redevelopment of a new controls system.
